It is a half-day guided trip from Dubai to Hatta, a mountain town in the Hajar range near the Oman border. You travel in a 4×4 with a driver who knows the roads, visit the dam, the old village and the main viewpoints, and return to your hotel in the early afternoon.
Most visitors only see the coast of Dubai: the towers, the malls, the beach. Hatta is the other side of the emirate. The road east on the E44 leaves the city, crosses open desert, and then the land starts to rise. About 115 km from Dubai the flat sand gives way to dark, folded rock, and the air is usually a few degrees cooler than in the city.
Planning that day alone means hiring a car, working out which stops are worth the time, and finding parking at each one. On a guided tour that is already done. We run the same route every morning, so the order of stops, the timing and the rest breaks are set before you get in the car.
Hatta Mountain Tour Dubai is based at The Exchange Tower in Business Bay, with a second office in Barsha Heights. We run two versions of the same day: the Sharing Hatta Mountain Tour, where you take seats in a shared car, and the Private Hatta Mountain Tour, where the car is yours. Both cover the Hajar Mountains, Hill Park, the Wadi Hub, Hatta Fort Hotel, the Heritage Village and Hatta Dam.
The shared Advance Package is AED 350 per adult and AED 300 per child aged 4 to 11, with a minimum of two persons. The private Premium Package is AED 900 for one car that seats up to five. Hotel pick-up and drop-off anywhere in Dubai are included in both.

The price covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel, and every stop on the route. Three things are not in the package price: kayaking at Hatta Dam, lunch at Hatta Fort Hotel, and anything you buy for yourself along the way. You decide on the day whether you want them.
A quick way to choose on cost: two adults pay AED 700 on the shared tour, so the shared car is cheaper for a couple. Three adults pay AED 1050 shared, which is more than a whole private car. From three people up, the private car costs less in total and you get the vehicle to yourselves.

You see six places in one morning: the Hajar Mountains on the drive in, Hill Park, the Hatta Wadi Hub, Hatta Fort Hotel, the Hatta Heritage Village and Hatta Dam. Together they cover the mountain views, the history and the water that Hatta is known for.
The Hajar Mountains. The range runs along the eastern edge of the UAE and into Oman. The rock is dark and bare, with almost no soil, so the shapes of the ridges are sharp against the sky. The last part of the drive winds between these peaks.
Hill Park Hatta. A small park on a hill above the town with a lookout tower at the top. The climb is short, and from the tower you can see the whole valley: date palms, low houses, and mountains on every side.
Hatta Wadi Hub. This is where Hatta puts its adventure activities, and it is the stop children talk about afterwards. Some of the activities here are seasonal and are paid on site, so ask us what is running on your date.
Hatta Fort Hotel. A long-standing mountain hotel with gardens and a view of the peaks. We stop here to rest, and you can add lunch if you want a proper meal before the drive back.
Hatta Heritage Village. The old settlement has been restored: stone and mud-brick houses, a fort, and round watchtowers on the high ground that once guarded the valley. Rooms are set up to show how families cooked, slept and stored food here in the 18th century and after.
Hatta Dam. The water is a strong blue-green and the rock around it is almost black, which is why this is the most photographed place in Hatta. You can walk along the top of the dam wall for the full view.
On the mountainside above the town you will also spot the Hatta Sign. At 19.28 metres it holds a Guinness World Records title as the tallest landmark sign. Our Hatta activities page goes through the main stops one by one, and the photo gallery shows what they look like on a normal tour day.
The driver collects you from your hotel between 07:00 and 07:30, drives about 1 hour 15 minutes to Hatta, takes you through the stops with breaks in between, and returns you to Dubai between 14:00 and 14:30. The whole day is about six hours.
The early start is deliberate. Mornings in Hatta are cooler, the light on the dam is softer, and the main stops are quieter before midday. An early return also means you can still plan dinner or an evening activity in Dubai on the same day.

Book the shared tour if you are one couple or two friends and want the lowest price. Book the private tour if you are three or more, travelling with children, or want to set your own pace. The stops are the same on both.
On the shared tour you travel with other guests. The car follows the standard route and timings, and the group moves together. Many people enjoy this: you meet other travellers and the day runs without any decisions to make.
On the private tour nobody else joins your car. You can stay longer at the dam, shorten the village walk, stop for a photo when you see one, or take a longer break if a child needs it. The standard pick-up is still 07:00 to 07:30, and you can ask for a different time when you book.
Both tours can be booked online in a couple of minutes: the shared tour booking page takes adults and children separately, and the private tour booking page is priced per car.
Yes. Kayaking at Hatta Dam is available as an optional activity on both tours. It is not included in the package price, so you pay for it only if you decide to go out on the water.
The rental point at the dam offers kayaks and pedal boats, and everyone gets a life jacket. You do not need experience. The water is flat and sheltered by the mountains, so first-timers manage well, and a double kayak lets an adult paddle with a child.
From the water the dam looks different. The rock walls rise straight up from the surface, and you can paddle into narrow inlets that you cannot see from the shore. Most guests spend 30 to 45 minutes on the water, which fits into the tour without rushing the other stops.
Bring swimwear or light clothes that can get splashed, plus a small towel. A waterproof pouch for your phone is worth having. There is more detail in our section on kayaking in Hatta Dam.
October to April is the most comfortable time, with mild mornings that suit walking, kayaking and the viewpoints. Tours run all year. In the hot months the early start means you see Hatta in the coolest part of the day.
From November to February the mornings can be fresh, especially at the top of Hill Park, so a light layer is useful. March, April and October are warm and clear. These months are also the busiest, and Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays bring more visitors to the dam. A weekday tour is quieter.
From May to September the middle of the day is hot, but the mountains still sit a little below Dubai's temperature and the morning hours are manageable. Carry extra water and keep the walking parts short. Some seasonal activities at the Wadi Hub pause in summer.

Yes. The day is short, the drive is comfortable, and the stops involve easy walking, so children and grandparents manage it well. Bring light clothes, comfortable shoes, sun protection and water.
Families usually pick the private car because the day can bend around the children: a longer stop where they are happy, a shorter one where they are not. On the shared tour, children aged 4 to 11 have their own lower rate.
Visitors already in the UAE on a valid visa do not need anything extra for Hatta, because the main attractions are on the UAE side. Online booking takes about two minutes and confirms your seat or your car straight away. If you would rather talk it through first, message us with your date and the number of adults and children, and we reply with availability. Same-day and next-day tours are often possible, depending on vehicles.
If your plans change, tell us as early as you can. More than 48 hours before pick-up there is no charge and anything you have paid is refunded. Between 24 and 48 hours a partial charge may apply, and inside 24 hours the booking is generally non-refundable.
